What does a postpartum doula do?
A Postpartum Doula provides emotional and physical support after baby arrives. My Postpartum Doula services look like caring for baby while you rest or focus on your self care, going grocery shopping for you, cooking for you, cleaning the kitchen, helping with laundry or even just an ear to talk to. Kim Johnson, of Fourth Trimester healing, talks about the 5 pillars of care for a new mom. They are rest, nourishment, loving touch, wise women, and contact with nature. She talks about the importance of extended rest, of nourishing warm foods after birth, of postpartum touch and massage, of being surrounded by wise women for spiritual and emotional support, of being in contact with nature. Whether than means you find a window and have a nourishing meal and some herbal tea, I go for a walk with you and baby, or you take a nap and shower, it all helps your wellbeing as you recover.
